"Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about."

GW Birthday Parade Mile - Alexandria VA

In Washington's hometown, Alexandria VA,  President's Day weekend is filled with lots of activities ending on Monday with the nation's largest George Washington birthday parade.

The parade, featuring bands, floats, wagons, horses, historic reenactment units, youth groups, and special performances, marches a one-mile route through the streets of Old Town Alexandria and for the second year in a row it is preceded by a well-organized "street mile" (by Pacers events).

Running this race gives you a feeling of being part of an invitational event (less than 100 athletes at the starting line but high-end quality runners showing up) with the crowd cheering on the sidewalks and VIP stands across the finish line.

Don't miss it next year! It's a beautiful experience.
