"Racing teaches us to challenge ourselves. It teaches us to push beyond where we thought we could go. It helps us to find out what we are made of. This is what we do. This is what it's all about."

Turkey Burnoff 10 miler - Gaithersburg MD

There's nothing better than a run to burn those extra calories collected during the holidays. Each year, the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, Montgomery Country Road Runners Club (MCRRC) organizes the Turkey Burnoff at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg. The course is really scenic and the gently rolling hills made it interesting and challenging; two distances are available, you can choose either the 5 or the10 miler (2 laps of the same course). The race is part of MCRRC low-key club race series and is free for members, and really cheap ($10) for non-members, as a side note no awards are expected. Outstanding, as usual, the organization; efficient parking plan and abundant post race refreshments.

Personally I had one of the best runs of the year (the race was challenging and competitive till the very end), even though I missed the first turn (the lead pack ran and additional quarter of a mile) and I had to pass the whole pack of runners to catch up the leading spots.

Here the final results.
